Hispanic Federation has committed $3 million to the Viviendas Initiative, a comprehensive housing and community development initiative that will focus on three key areas: physical repairs to homes, civil legal services, and advocacy to ensure access to federal resources and public participation in community development.
The initiative will fund over 20 organizations to collaborate on the repair of more than 150 homes; community lawyering; and building long-term power to address systemic issues through a multi-sector coalition for housing and community development. Initial partners include Ayuda Legal Puerto Rico and Fundación Fondo de Acceso a la Justica.
Hispanic Federation will create and implement a strong plan comprised of three crucial recovery strategies: physical repairs of homes, collective advocacy, and community legal assistance. These strategies are designed to help meet several objectives, including supporting the coordination of non-profit efforts, decentralizing information, ensuring public participation in the recovery, facilitating access to public and private recovery funds, and promoting collaboration in defense of the right to safe and adequate housing.
By consolidating these three strategies, we seek to build non-profit capacity, offer immediate housing assistance to vulnerable families in crisis, and, at the same time, multiply their impact through collective housing advocacy.
